Applying a Bronzer According to Face Shape for a Natural Sunkissed Look

Do you sometimes wonder how some people always look fresh and sunkissed even during fall? It’s like their complexion is perfect all year round! A healthy-looking skin tone is always on trend and you need a bronzer to add that au naturale glow and warmth to your face.

ELES - Bronzer - Face Shape 1

Applying bronzer is key to creating the perfect glow you want to achieve. It also enhances your complexion. Strategically applying it according to your face shape makes that glow look so natural. You’ll look like you’re not wearing makeup at all. Also remember that as you gain or lose weight, your face shape may change. Keeping these pointers handy will help you enhance your face shape and complexion. Are you ready? Grab your ELES Anti-Oxidant Bronzer and follow the steps below:

The General Rule in Bronzer Application

Our goal here is to add a “natural glow” to your everyday look. With contouring, you use a bronzer and a highlighter. This time, we will only use a matte bronzer. The general rule is to apply it on areas of the face on which the sun would naturally touch — forehead, bridge of the nose and cheekbones.

Oval Face Shape

Where to apply:

  • top of the forehead, along the hairline
  • apples of your cheeks (not the hollows like when you contour)
  • dust along bridge of the nose

Heart Face Shape

Where to apply:

  • forehead (apply more on hairline and temple for a more proportioned look)
  • cheekbones (heart-shaped face has prominent cheekbones so apply bronzer on the cheekbones and a little bit on the side)
  • dust bronzer on the center of the chin

Round Face Shape

Where to apply:

  • Slim the face by applying along the cheekbones downward towards the jaw. This will create a subtle rectangular effect that elongates the face a little bit.

Rectangular/Oblong Face Shape

Where to apply:

  • middle of the forehead to shorten the length of the face
  • middle of the cheeks (right between the hollows and the top of the cheekbones)

Square Face Shape

Where to apply:

  • a little on forehead, curving to the temples to soften the corners of the face
  • top of the cheekbones

No cheekbones? Here’s how to fake them

This is how you fake it ELES Cosmetics supermodel cheekbonesIf you love watching runway fashion shows and scanning through fashion magazines, you’ll notice that trends vary from season to season. And while seasonal looks change in a blink of an eye, classic makeup never ever goes out of style. If you envy those supermodel cheekbones and think you’re far from gifted, good news girl, you can fake them and still look natural. Here’s how:

Create a dewy base

Transform your skin’s texture from pale to a natural, healthy glow with your favourite liquid foundation/BB cream mixed with a little illuminating serum OR try our NEW luminous CC Cream. A clean canvas always makes a great artwork and this can easily be achieved using premium mineral makeup. Top with a finishing powder to seal.

We recommend: ELES Liquid Powder Foundation, ELES Age-Defying BB Cream 30, ELES Luminous CC Cream 20, ELES Liquid Illuminator, ELES Mineral Gemstone Finishing Powder

Always aim for a natural look. You might want to skip the overly chiseled cheeks like those of the runway stars as you don’t want to look fake while you’re out dealing with your usual stuff. Using a blush brush, lightly apply a mineral bronzer one shade darker to the hollows of the cheeks and you’ll see a slimmer shape of your face starting to form. Apply highlighter right on top of the apple of your cheeks and on your t-zone for a natural shine.

We recommend: ELES Mineral Bronzer

Let your cheeks stand out! Using the right shade, apply blush on the apple of your cheeks. The rich colour of the blush against the bronzer will create a beautiful contrast and will fulfil the contouring technique.

We recommend: our highly pigmented ELES Baked Blush

Selecting and applying the right colour of blush correctly could be an even harder task. GET GLOWING: How To Do Believable Bronzer

About Emily Taylor

Get Glowing

Bronzer is a beauty product of contradictions. While most of us would name it in our “Can’t Live Without” list, especially during summer, this buy can potentially do more harm than good if applied incorrectly. Think a muddy-looking pallor, orange doughnuts for cheeks, or accentuated fine lines and wrinkles. Done right, however, bronzer can lift your look and add healthy colour to your complexion.

Follow these simple steps to avoid a faux glow faux pas:

Choose the correct formula

This is key for achieving a believable result. If you normally use a creamy foundation or tinted moisturiser, you’ll need a liquid or cream-based bronzer to complement your look.

If, however, you always top your base with a dusting of translucent powder, similarly your chosen bronzer should take the form of a powder form.  This golden rule – cream on cream, powder on powder – will banish telltale lines and ensure blending is a breeze.

Be smart about texture

Remember that different finishes create different results. So, if you want to create a chiseled bone structure or add a sunkissed wash of colour to your complexion, a matt formula will work best.

If, however, you want to add a lit-from-within glow, you’ll need a bronzer with a shimmery finish for a radiance boost. A word of warning on high-shine textures, though: while super-flattering for skin, they do act like a highlighter pen. So just be sure to keep them away from any lines, crows feet or blemishes. Cheekbones and temples make the ideal position.

Blend, blend, blend

Taking the time to apply your bronzer correctly will ensure professional-looking results every time. But take note: never rely on the little applicators that can be found in some products. If you’re using a powder bronzer, invest in a large, fluffy brush to create a seamless finish. Swirl it over the compact, then tap gently on the back of your hand to dislodge any clumps of colour before using a light, circular motion to apply to your skin. Start at the apples of your cheeks and work upwards towards your temples, blending into your hairline for a traceless finish.

Using a liquid or cream? Apply a little to the back of your hand, then use a clean foundation brush to work the bronzer into your skin to create an airbrushed look. Alternatively, blend a touch of the product between your fingers and dab onto your cheeks, allowing the warmth of your fingers to help the colour melt into your complexion.

A note about blush…

While it may sound counterintuitive to use two cheek colour products at once, a bronzer’s best friend is, in fact, blush. After you’ve applied your chosen glow-getter, grab a blush in a rosy tone (just remember the golden rule above – cream on cream, powder on powder – it’s essential here, too). By adding just a dash of pink to the apples of your cheeks as a finishing touch, the results look so much more natural. Muddy pallor? Not any more!

Long Lasting Makeup for the Summer Season

ELES summer makeup

The scorching heat and humidity of the summer months could make dressing up for work or for a party a bit hard since that would include not only the attire that you’re wearing but also your makeup as well. During the summer season, our skin tends to produce more oil so the kind of makeup you use matters. Foundation tends to melt or liquefy, and little beads of sweat ruin your look. Prevent your makeup from melting down by following these tips:

  1. Skip the foundation and use a light oil free moisturiser like the ELES Mineral Sheer Tint with SPF 20 (this great product is a tinted moisturizer and sunscreen in one!). Should you really need maximum coverage for dinner dance parties or weddings, opt for a foundation that is self-setting and oil-free like the ELES Mineral Liquid Foundation with SPF 15. It holds onto your skin for a longer time while keeping your skin looking all natural and glowing.

  2. Go easy on the blush! During the day, sport a healthy look by using the ELES Mineral Bronzing Duo which is a bronzer and finishing powder in one. Trust us, you’ll look fabulous with this one! For evening look, go for a barely there makeup by applying a very thin layer of ELES Mineral Blush (the shade is buildable from bare to rich so you don’t need to do the a lot of blending).

  3. Look for long-wearing mascara  and eyeliner. Most would prefer pencil but thanks to ELES’ creator Liane Scior, she knows that a lot of us women need. We now have a long wearing LiquiLiner which helps you achieve that perfectly sculpted eyes without having to worry about the summer sweat! Browse through our collection here.

  4. The environment’s heat could chap your lips. Keep them protected and moisturised with the ELES Super Balm for super radiant, super healthy pout!

  5. And our most important tip is this: Look for all-natural cosmetics with SPF to protect your face from the sun’s harmful UVA & UVB that may cause skin pigmentation. Opting for all natural makeup products also keeps your skin acne-free.
